Character design class
October 2017-January 2018 - Personal work
Discovering character design and experimenting with digital painting while in Japan
During my semester at Kyoto Seika University, I chose to follow a class I could not have at my home school: digital painting. The goal was to practise both using a graphic tablet and designing characters.
The first half of the semester was dedicated to experimenting by studying already existing character art. I chose to try out the style of an artist I appreciate, Abigail Larson. I imitated one of her artworks for the first drawing, and for the second one I used her style with Ashley Kincannon's art.
Then, and as a personal project, we had to create our own character, starting with doodles and sketches and then coming in and adding more detail and pushing the style we had chosen as most as we could. This way for the next project →
